Slow days

February’s stats give a great overview of the average email haul. But the day-to-day isn’t as simple. A few days ago, for instance, we received a new query every 10 minutes.

Today saw 6. That’s right, 6 total for the agency. And it’s a Thursday.

Perhaps people prepare for Easter 4 days in advance? Do that many people celebrate Easter? I hate to make assumptions about people’s religious practices.

Slow days, packed days: anything can happen in this work. You never know what tomorrow will look like — which makes agents all the more amazing in my book.

They might have 2 full manuscripts to read in a week, pitches to polish and send to editors, and 100 emails begging their attention.

But every so often, the world gives them a day off.
